Loft on Bank Street

West Village, NYC        2012

This residence in the West Village is located in an old sewing factory and is a project for another one of our long-time clients who has led a life of many chapters.  In this particular space, the design driver derived from the client’s storied travels and desire to display collections of items in context to one another.  The LAB team proceeded to design an intricate series of interlocking rectilinear forms that allow for the owner to curate his small collections.  Throughout the loft, old timber columns were exposed and hidden iron crimps were brought back to life. Noting the textures and long linear lines in the existing elements we designed the remaining spaces with those parameters in mind. The shelving, fireplace, and bathroom are textured and have a horizontal linearity.
